Enter the world of G Flip an absurd realm of self-reflection and machine learning. When Deep-faking keeps popping up as memes all over the internet, mainly just silly face replacements of celebrities, political parodies of politicians, or as your kinky fantasies on Pornhub. G Flips the latest video for ‘Stupid’ was directed by Lachlan Dickie through Warren, explores the technology and the phenomena of deepfake in a more disconcerting manner, more akin to a demented live-action version of an online multiplayer game than another funny Instagram post.
Lachlan Dickie says “Deepfake tech is surely something that will cause some moral issues in the future, but I figure why not play around with it creatively until then. G Flip's track has a self-reflective theme going on, so I thought it'd be a great match to quite literally create a world where there is nothing but alternate G Flips living out different parallel realities.
G Flip continues "For 'Stupid' directors pitched lots of ideas to me and to be honest, the majority of them were extremely similar, involving a couple fighting and then reuniting, but this one director had the most whack ideas. Straight up bizarre. His name's Lachlan Dickie. I spoke to him on the phone and told him the crazier the better and we ran through some ideas. He came up with a concept of having everyone look like me and I asked him if it was possible, for my head to be on everyone else's, but I wasn't sure if there was tech for that, turns out there is, it's called deep fake and it's f**kin crazy !! So here is an extremely strange and stupid film clip for my song 'Stupid'. I love what Lach did, what a legend."
Working with the incredible BlockheadVFX, with hundreds of terrifying mutations along the way, we created 24 individual G Flips who all coexist in this absurd-yet-nightmarish video.
Oliver Hammerton says “Music Videos are a great format, and still often referred to as a cultural reference point in the advertising and marketing industry, but unfortunately are in-part also suffering from the over-saturation of work derived from the results of safe marketing decisions. Warren is a multimedia studio looking to use new technology and innovations to tell new kinds of stories and create experiences. This was a perfect opportunity for us to apply that approach and create something conceptual that explores new technology and is ultimately progressive.
We want to say a huge thank you to G Flip and the Future Classic team for backing this one and to Blockhead VFX for coming on board with us to make something this cooked.”
